“Down On My Knees”, released in 2006, represented the musical birth of Joy Olasumibo Ogunmakin, better known under the name Ayo. Influenced just as much by Bob Marley as Donny Hathaway, this young artist of Nigerian origin immediately knew how to present her individual universe to the public. Her first CD, “Joyful”, sold more than 400,000 copies, an unprecedented achievement for this collection of twelve tracks recorded in five days. Her third album will be named after her first baby daughter, “Billie-Eve”, who is due to be born. A more complex and rich record than its two predecessors, with several prestigious guests and compositions which favour raw emotion. The musical colour of this powerful album moves from reggae to psyche rock, via blues and the deepest soul and is completely laden with overwhelming, personal lyrics, the most intense that Ayo has ever written. Far from fashionable and showbiz with attitude, Ayo stands out from the first to the final track as a universal artist, a singer with evident sincerity.
