Although indispensable to his group Bloc Party, singer and leader Kele Okereke, managed to land a few months solo to record “The Boxer”. And on this, he surprises everybody by distancing himself from the compulsive rock of the English group and serving up ten ultra synthetic tracks, destined to set alight any dance floor. Most of the tracks benefit from a typical pop song structure but are very polished so as to give a certain trancelike effect. As for the lyrics, they are not simply gimmicky or hedonistic; they bear witness to Kele Okereke’s writing talents. Carried by his deep charisma, “Tenderoni” and “Everything you Wanted” are superb demonstrations of the best that dancey and well-crafted electro has to offer.
